It was my first Wordpress installation, and my enthusiasm for adding plugins and extending the HTML made forget to choose a simple theme in the first place. Note to self: copy out the header/style/sidebar changes; install new theme (scribbish?); put fun stuff back in. @evan - re: overbearing orange - I agree.
