Rails on the Fairway – Matt Allen
Matt Allen works at iseekgolf.com which was ported from PHP to Rails. It has 130 models. It does lots of caching.
And Matt did a talk on it, and its been Viddler-ized by Lachie Cox. Look out for the very cool graphical intro.
Oceania Ruby on Rails
The growing Rails crowd in Australia now has a new blog/site for announcements, plus its famous schooner facebook site.
I’m certainly looking forward to returning home at the end of September and coming down to Sydney to meet the guys during the Web Directions South conference (my workshop here).

Good presentation, I’m just a bit surprised they didn’t end up using cache_fu and memcached. Thanks for sharing Nic.
@Matt Aimonetti [via] – sounds like Matt worked with the premise “I used what I could get working first and fastest”
@Matt Aimonetti [via] – Hey Matt;
Those two plugins were pretty new back when we started, and they have come along way since.
The thing that amazes me to this day, and amazed a lot of the audience is the distinct lack of mongrels that run the site, and that the disc cache is just fine for us atm.
Matta
@Matt Allen [via] – You certainly did a very good job and I really appreciate the fact that you share with us what you went through. Migrating legacy apps is a real pain, did you use Nic’s magic model generator to help you migrating your Model, or did you start from scratch? Also what’s your next move? (I’m sorry if you already answered this question, I didn’t listed the questions session at the end of the video
)
@Matt Aimonetti [via] – the MMG inline comment was just me spamming the video hehe
@Matt Aimonetti [via] – Hmm next move.
Building lots of new stuff into the site, we’re scaling up so we’ll need memcache sooner rather than later
